bullet  General Notes:

Thomas Wood married Elizabeth Allan when she was 23 at Heyworth Durham England. They sailed to Australia on the boat "Joshua" which left South Hampton on 24th of June 1854 and arrived in Geelong Vic in 1854 with their three children Elizabeth 11 yrs, George 8 yrs and Ann 2 yrs.

Page 353 Book 10 of the Assisted Immigrants from the UK 1839-1871 lists Thomas as a carpenter from Northumberland, age 39, who could read and write and was going to Geelong on his own account.

Soon after arriving in Geelong they travelled to Ballarat - probably walking.
In 1854, the same year they arrived, Ann died, Death Certificate No 5725.

The later generations lived on a block at the corner of Sherrard and Chislom Streets, Black Hill Ballarat. There was a small shed built on this block and it is probable that this is where Thomas lived.

Thomas, Death Certificate No 957, died in 1872 the same year as his wife.
