Ann LEWIS

  General Notes:

In the 1841 Wales Survey, Ann Evans , Mary Evans and Margaret Evans the three people we have confirmation in the one family and for which we have birth dates for Mary and Margaret were living in Llanwonno, Glamorgan, Wales with the remainder of the family. The name Rees for one of the boys seems significant as Mary's first child was not a Williams but Ester Ann Rees born when her husband John Williams was only a boy and was clearly not his.

In the 1841 Wales Survey, Ann Evans birth date is estimated as 1806 but in this survey the ages are usually rounded down to multiples of 5 years for people over the age of 15. It is hard to decifer but the address seems to be Tarasy Pistill.

"My mother's parents were John and Ann Evans, they too were God loving people, they lived and died in South Wales so it was not my privilege to know them. Grandfather may have died before I was born, but I remember a letter arriving with the news that Grandmother had passed away, I think I would then be about 10 years old. They had 4 sons and 4 daughters : Jemima, John, Rees, Jenkin, Ann, Margaret ( my Mother), Mary and Evan." #

"Family tradition remembers John and Ann Evan (s) living at Cymer, opposite the old Independent Chapel, where they were members and where they are both buried. John Evan(s) died on the 13th July, 1869 . Ann moved to Treorci in November 1870, presumably to live with her daughter Mary. The date of her death has not yet been recovered." *

In the 1871 Wales Survey, Ann Evans was living with her daughter Mary Evans and her husband John Williams. She is listed as widowed and the Mother-in-law to John and was 70 years old.

Ann married John EVANS, son of John EVANS and Margaret JENKINS, on 12 May 1824 in Llantrisant, Glamorgan, Wales. (John EVANS was born on 12 Feb 1798 in Llantrisant, Glamorgan, Wales and died on 13 Jul 1869 in Pontypridd, Llanwonno, Glamorgan, Wales.)
