bullet  General Notes:

Her birth Certificate has her born at Bishop Norton in the sub-district of Market Rasen, in the District of Caistor in the County of Lincoln. She confirms this in later surveys where she reports being born in Bishop Norton. Her parents are given as John Brocklesby, husbandman, and Jane Brocklesby formerly Laceby.

In the 1861 Census their name was misspelled as Brockelsby. They were living in Farr Street and the number of the schedule was 30. At this time John, 35 yrs and Jane, 32 yrs, had a son John who was 12 years old, Robert, 10 yrs, Sarah A., 7 yrs, Hannah, 4 yrs, and Elizabeth 2 yrs.

In 1871, there is a report of a John Goulding marrying in the June quarter in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire reference 7a 1449 and a report Sarah Brocklesby marrying in the June quarter in Caistor reference 7a 1315.

In the 1881 Census John was married and was living with his wife and family on a farm and completed the census in the at Morton in Gainsborough. He was a farmer with 80 acres. There were two servants one a John Tinker who was 16 in 1881 and the other Theresa Making 14 years old.

Frank Bernard Goulding's birth certificate lists John Goulding as his father and his occupation was a farmer. It also gives Sarah Ann Goulding formerly Brocklesby as his mother.

By the 1891 census, he was still living in Walkerith Rd at the village of Morton in the rural Sanitary District of Gainsborough in the Parliamentary Division of West Lindsey and the Ecclesiastical District of St Paul's. Their address was given as Walkerith Rd. Another son had appeared, John, who was presumably absent in 1881. Also George had either left home or died. In this survey, Frank Bernard Goulding had been born and was living with them and was listed as Frank B., son, 7 yrs, Scholar, and born in Morton, Lincolnshire.

By the 1901 census, Sarah A Goulding was living in Walkerith Rd as a widow and head of the house.

By April 1905, Sarah appears to have re-married and become Mrs Pickup and was still living in Walkerith Rd. according to Frank's Application to join the South African Constabulary. We believe that there was also a good deal of family disapproval when Sarah Ann remarried. He was said to be a waster who "drunk away" the family money. I am not aware of any money coming down the Goulding line (certainly not to William) and if there was anything left it went to the Pickup's.

From the 1911 census, Sarah Ann Goulding re married John William Pickup in December 1904 at Gainsborough. In 1911 they had a shop at 114 Trinity Street Gainsborough (Pork Butcher). In Kelly's Directory for 1913 the shop is listed as owned by Sarah Ann Pickup. This information confirms the logic of Frank Bernard listing his mother as Mrs Pickup of Walkerith Road.

By Sept 1917, Sarah Ann Goulding was given in Frank's Death Certificate as deceased.
