Fred worked in the mines with his father in South Africa. FBW indicated he was in one of the old underground 3-D dual photographs and I think he said a coal mine.
On 23 March 1917 Amy wrote to Fred, Harold's brother. The letter was addressed to Private F.C. Williams, 15 Platoon D. Coy 3rd South African Infantry, B.C.F. France.
He was Private no 1378 in the South African Army and he died of wounds in France on 4 May 1917 aged 19 years and 10 months. He is buried with the 3rd African Infantry in Etaples Military Cemetery, Plot 18 Row J Grave 7A. When he died his parents were living at 33 10th St Boxburg North Transvaal.
