Eunice was a wonderful mother to her children. She never had any favourates and the children were treated equally. She would make clothes for the children and hand sowed an athletic uniform for Eileen when she was selected for the combined sports. No one else had the same black glossy outfit but Eileen did not have the heart to tell her mother.
She also made a prefect uniform for Eileen working for many nights hand sowing on a sequence on to the dress so Eileen could go to the prefects dance.
Eunice inherited MENS disease from her mother and this was passed to most of the children to greater or lesser effect. Eileen and Joan appeared to not have it. Professor Joe Sheppard at Royal Hobart Hospital studied the disease and had a family tree before he met with a tragic tractor accident. The work is being continued by Mr John Burgess. Typically there are tumours on the resporatory gland, ulsers, with high calcium and pains in the stomach. The tumors can turn cancerous.
After George died she had a great 9 years. She had a government $2 flat in which the children installed carpet. She had a bus pass and went along to the Golden Years Club. She became very independent.
Her neice, Elaine, indicated her name was Eunice May but her record in the Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart, Tas indicates she was Eunice Eliza. Her next of kin was listed as Mrs Schybens (her daughter Dianne) in the records and she was buried RC Section CP Site 156 with her husband.
Eunice married George Harold RANDALL, son of Charles Edward RANDALL and Unknown, on 29 Jun 1927 in Holy Trinity Church, Hobart, Tas. (George Harold RANDALL was born on 19 Sep 1904, died in Oct 1970 in Chigwell, Tas and was buried on 31 Oct 1970 in Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart, Tas.)
